1

Petition by Chong U Ki of Wong-Kong.

Showeth that petitioner's father Chong Man Kin, a Chinese B.A., has been a keeper of the peace & without an enemy.

When Admiral Ho came to try cases, he appointed him Chief of the village Council.

Petitioner's father being inflexibly upright, protected the people of good character & used his utmost endeavours to attack robbers.

On the 31st July, more than 100 robbers entered petitioner's house & pillaged, dragging his father out into the sitting room & cut him with knives without any care as to where the cuts would go.

They carried the corpse away in a basket, saying they would reduce it to pieces so there should be no trace left. There were 9 persons, clansmen & partners of petitioner, present & they were bound up & wounded.

Amongst the ruffians were the ruffians Wong Hei alias Mang Kung, Wong Mang Tsap & Wong Fung Lain of Sha Tau Ha Pin.

The case was reported to the Military on the 1st Aug., & the officer personally made an investigation on the spot & went with the 9 men mentioned above to Sha Tau, where an accomplice was identified.

The rest of the robbers ran away & concealed themselves.

Although there are soldiers in the place, these robbers are bold enough to do what they please & have no respect for the law.

They intend to combine together & avenge themselves for the arrest of their accomplice (by the soldiers) who was pointed out.
